The supposed interest source was an HDFC SLR-bond reporting line that turned out to be the same bank's recurring-deposit maturity being misreported as fresh interest by the AMC's Section 285BB reporter. If unaddressed within the second-proviso thirty-day window, the addition would have crystallised, the refund would have flipped to a demand of about ₹78,000, and Section 234A and Section 234B interest would have piled on.
Approach: We pulled the bank's full statement for the relevant year, traced the ₹3.92 lakh entry to a recurring-deposit maturity (principal-plus-interest) where only the interest component of ₹47,000 was actually taxable — the principal ₹3.45 lakh was a return of own capital.
